Baby showers have become almost as routine as scan appointments when it comes to pregnancy arrangements. A concept borrowed from across the pond, baby showers are no longer exclusively celebrated by A-listers, but we do thank Kim Kardashian for bringing them to our attention, as it’s become a widely celebrated pregnancy milestone.

As well as playing games such as “guess the baby poo” and “pin the sperm on the ovary”, one of the most standout parts of a baby shower is the showering of gifts, of course. We think carrying a baby for nine months deserves a present or two, but how do you choose the best baby shower gifts?

Baby showers tend to be held towards the end of pregnancy and the expectant mother will receive a plethora of gifts for her and her impending arrival. While parents-to-be may have already bought a large chunk of what’s needed, particularly for those first few months, it’s easy to underestimate quite how much a small person needs.

Gifting products that will help with the parenting journey are likely to be gratefully received, or you may want to make mum the centre of attention and treat her to a little indulgence for this final push.

Whether it’s for a family member, friend, colleague or neighbour, we’ve put together a list of the best baby shower gifts that’ll delight any mum.

ErgoPouch cocoon swaddle bag, 2.5 tog

ErgoPouch cocoon swaddle bag indybest
  • Best: For helping with baby’s sleep routine
  • Why we love it
    • Mimics the womb

While sleep can’t be gifted, you can help baby drift off by creating a dreamy sleep environment. This swaddle bag from Australian baby sleep brand ErgoPouch is an award-winning product, and for good reason.

A practical yet thoughtful gift, the cocoon is made from breathable natural fibres and is designed to mimic the womb. A 2.5 tog is recommended for temperatures around 18C, and the nifty double zip saves the faff of removing it during middle-of-the-night nappy changes. Parents can choose to keep the arm studs closed or open, but the brand suggests keeping them closed for snugness if your baby isn’t rolling yet. You tuck baby’s legs into the swaddle and zip up with baby’s hands in the desired position by the sides, or across the chest, removing the need for flappy blankets.

With love at first touch, these don’t simply look and feel good, they do good by reducing faff during night-time nappy changes – it ticks all the boxes for us. Parents can never have too many bibs and if you’re shopping with a smaller budget in mind, Mamas & Papas teddy bear three pack is sure to have a mum-to-be cooing in no time.
