From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

If you’re searching for a new device for a sim-only contract (read our buying guide on how you can find the best deals for you) then you’ll be glad to hear that you can currently save £150 on the Samsung Galaxy S21 plus. Boasting a large 6.7in screen and long-lasting battery, you simply can’t go wrong.
While we can’t attest to this exact model, we did put the device’s sibling, the smaller-screen Samsung Galaxy S21, head to head with the Apple iPhone 12, and the Galaxy S21 took the lead on several counts, proving that Samsung is a brand to trust when it comes to Android mobiles.
The device received rave reviews from The Independent’s technology critic David Phelan, who noted the terrific display and said that thanks to the refresh rate of 120Hz, “everything looks super-smooth”. The discounted Samsung Galaxy S21 plus has the same display, so it should perform just as well as its sibling on this front.
As for the cameras, both the S21 plus and S21 have three on the rear and one on the front. The selfie cameras are 10MP, while the first two on the rear have 12MP-resolution sensors and the third provides a telephoto lens with a 64MP sensor. “For many people, this alone will put Samsung out in front,” noted Phelan when comparing the S21 to the iPhone 12. He also added that “overall, the cameras are very good here and the addition of the third rear lens is very helpful”.
Owing to the similarities between the S21 and the S21 plus, you can trust that the latter is a device worth having. Plus, if you buy now you’ll be able to make use of a £150 saving.
