Our Top Picks

Everyone’s skincare routine should include a quality moisturiser. A fix for hydration and protecting against free radicals, as well as targeting specific skin concerns, the best moisturisers for men are bathroom-cabinet essentials, alongside good cleansers and sunscreen.

If you like to keep your daily regime simple, opt for products loaded with as much goodness as possible, while still being suited to your skin type – whether that’s an enriched face wash, an easily absorbed serum or a moisturiser packed with targeted actives.

“Men should look for moisturisers that are non-comedogenic, fragrance-free, and that contain hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin or ceramides,” says Dr Sonia Khorana, Hero cosmetics’s dermatology expert. “These components help to lock in moisture without clogging pores or causing irritation, which is particularly important for maintaining healthy skin.”

For hydration, look for nourishing ingredients such as plant-based oils or vitamin E. If you’re looking to pep up your complexion, though, vitamin C and niacinamide should be on your wishlist. For oily skin, sebum-regulating ingredients such as salicylic acid and ceramides will work best. SPF is always an added bonus but, unless it delivers strong protection, we’d recommend using a separate sunscreen as well as your moisturiser.

As men’s skin tends to be thicker than women’s, it’s usually best to go for a lightweight formula. Anything too thick would be more difficult to absorb so some vitamins could be lost. If you stick to a thinner consistency, though, your complexion will benefit from all of the nutrition the wonder product holds.

The verdict: Moisturisers for men

If you’re looking to invest in your skin in a big way, 111Skin’s repair day cream will deliver great results but it’s a costly choice. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly moisturiser it’s got to be CeraVe’s moisturising lotion, but the best all-rounder at an affordable price point has to be Horace’s mattifying moisturiser. The French grooming expert seemingly never fails.
