From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Kate Middleton’s style is adored by many, with dresses, jackets, shoes and more all known to sell out after being spotted on the royal. But while most of us don’t have a budget to match that of the Duchess of Cambridge, she doesn’t solely sport designer wares, meaning there have been multiple occasions where we could cop the looks.
Of course, we do regularly spot the royal wearing British designers, such as Erdem and Alexander McQueen, but it’s clear a good helping of high-street options make it into her wardrobe too.
While we may not need our own gala-ready gowns or fanciful fascinators any time soon, there are a whole host of everyday essentials worn by the Duchess that we can take into our wardrobes, from trusty Veja trainers to a boardroom-ready Reiss blazer.
M&S, Boden and LK Bennett are regular go-to brands, and rest assured every look from the royal is always poised and polished, no matter if it costs £50 or £5,000.
Keep reading below for a round-up of some of the royal’s favourites, and key buys that are still in stock.
Reiss
Favoured by Rochelle Humes, Holly Willoughby and Kate Middleton (among others), Reiss is a regular go-to for those with a sleek and sophisticated style. It’s not exactly a bargain brand, but its wares do look expensive. Opting to wear the brand for her official engagement photo in 2010, Kate chose a neutral-toned Nanette dress by Reiss, cut at a knee-high length.
More recently, she wore a blazer from the brand while visiting the London headquarters of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), to discuss support efforts surrounding the conflict in Ukraine. Kate also wore the same piece last year, during a trip to RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire. The goods news is, the Reiss Larsson double-breasted twill blazer is back in stock but, predictably, the size range is dwindling fast (£285, Reiss.com).
Accessorize
A regular on the high street, Accessorize has been a British favourite for many years, and it’s clear Kate is partial to its jewellery too.
She was spotted wearing a pair of the brand’s earrings on multiple occasions, including a visit to Sunshine House Children and Young People’s Health and Development Centre in London, and the Royal Horticultural Society Garden in Surrey. Although Kate opted for the gold-tone variation, the similar silver version of the filigree drop earrings are still available to buy, and they’re less than £5 in the sale (£4.50, Accessorize.com).
Rixo
Another regular favourite on the fashion scene, Rixo toes the line between high street and designer, working perfectly for special occasions, wedding-guest outfits, and royals, clearly. With dresses and tops in bold prints, the brand certainly makes a statement with its unique style.
Spotted sporting the Rixo Izzy pink marble zebra dress (£245, Rixo.co.uk) – which is still available to buy online – for a visit to Abaco, a chain of islands in the Bahamas, Kate looked fabulous in this pink frock.
Boden
Kate’s wardrobe seems to be bursting with Boden. Notable pieces include a baby-blue cardigan with scalloped trims worn on a video call with frontline workers; a pink, printed pussy-bow blouse worn on another video call to mark International Women’s Day, and another scalloped crew neck cardigan, this time in pink, for a visit to a re-opened school in Stratford during the pandemic.
Inevitably, all of these pieces sold out. But the brand does have a similar scallop-trimmed crotchet cardigan in black available (£90, Boden.co.uk) and a dusty-red wool collared coat (£198, Boden.co.uk).
Veja
Veja trainers are notoriously popular and even featured in our best women’s trainer guide. Kate Middleton is also a fan, donning the Esplar metallic-trimmed leather sneakers (£110, Net-a-porter.com) on a visit to St. Andrews in Scotland with Prince William and again at the Natural History Museum.
Paired with simple jeans and a blazer both times, they seem to be the go-to shoe for laid-back Duchess style.
Monica Vinader
More expensive than the £4.50 Accessorize earrings, granted, another favourite jewellery brand of Kate’s is Monica Vinader, and these pieces can last a lifetime.
First spotted on the Duchess in 2016, during her royal tour of Canada, then in 2017 on St Patrick’s Day in Ireland, and later at the Chelsea Flower Show, as well as the Princess Diana garden at Kensington Palace and a whole list of other occasions, its clear to see they’re a regular favourite. Called the siren earrings (£135, Monicavinader.com), they can also still be bought now.
Ghost London
Opting for a pretty blue floral Ghost dress to mark her 10th anniversary with Prince William in 2021, Kate is clearly a fan of this high-street brand. But that wasn’t the first time this dress got an outing. Always one to re-wear her wardrobe, the Duchess previously picked this frock for a royal visit to Pakistan in 2019.
Although this exact dress is now out of stock, the brand does have a number of other fabulous frocks to choose from on its website.
M&S
Kate wore a £30 pair of trainers from M&S in 2020 when visiting the London Stadium, promptly causing people to go into a frenzy, snapping them up at lightning speed. Taking full advantage of the frenzy, the brand brought out the same style in different colours, but those too are long gone.
A pink trouser suit and a blue floral print midi dress from the brand also feature in Kate’s wardrobe, and there are continual new drops, so you can replicate the Duchess’s style.
Missoma
Few jewellery brands have launched to fame quite as strongly as Missoma, which has been spotted on celebrities and royals regularly over the past few years. First wearing the brand in 2019 during a tour of Pakistan, Kate has been spotted in numerous pieces since then. But, it’s her original pair that seems to have caught most people’s eye, and they’re still available to buy now.
Named the Zenyu chandelier hoop earrings, the 18ct gold-plated pieces make quite the statement and are sure to jazz up any outfit (£125, Missoma.com).
