Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s surprising how few people know how to shave correctly.

Often people leap out of bed and shave haphazardly too quick, resulting in razor burn and ingrown hairs. The secret is not only to get the sequence right (cleanse, pre-shave oil, shaving cream, razor, after shave balm) but also to use quality kit.

One thing we’ve learned is that it’s important to get a wet shave by a professional and ask which direction your hairs grow. Murdock in London offer one for £45. It’s a pricey investment, but one that can make a world of difference.

1. Murdock Pre-Shave Travel Oil: £13, Murdock London

Verdict

Our Best Buy is the Murdock shaving oil, which isn't too thick and provides the perfect base layer before shaving. The Clarins aftershave energiser is also not to be missed as it soothes without overly drying out the skin. The Malin + Goetz moisturiser is also the best of its kind that we tested, so if you want to splash out go for that.
