Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

1. Mini Boden Fun Jumper: from £30, boden.co.uk
Boden has come up trumps this season with their delightful textured jumpers. Our favourite is this fun hedgehog jumper that has an adorable 3D effect. Available for babies right up to 12-year-olds, it is soft against the skin, with no itchiness, and it washes well.
2. Next Sparkle Fluffy Sweater: from £15, next.co.uk
It’s no mean feat creating a jumper that works for three-year-olds right up to 16-year-olds, let alone one that girls in all those ages will actually choose to wear, but Next has achieved it with this machine washable fluffy jumper made with a hint of sparkle in the fabric. Available in blue, grey, chocolate or pink.
3. Mothercare Stripe Jumper: from £12, mothercare.com
This adorable striped jumper is available from newborns up to 24-months. It looks great and will keep babies toasty warm through the colder months. It washes like a dream, so you’ve no need to worry about spilt milk, and it’s lovely and soft against young skin.
4. Intarsia Jumper: from £34.95, joules.com
We’re confident that this is the jumper most little girls will make a beeline for this swing shaped jumper if you take them into a Joules store this Autumn. The cute dog with textured pink bandana is set against a stunning ruby colour, with detailed hem and sleeves. Available for 3-12 year-olds.
5. M&S Chunky Floral Embroidered Jumper: from £14, marksandspencer.com
Snap one of these up fast if you like it as they’re selling fast. Made for one to seven year-olds, it is a nice thick oatmeal coloured jumper with pretty flowers and button detailing around the neck. There are two small, but handy, pockets on the front.
6. New Look Teens Shell Pink Unicorn Sweater: £12.99, newlook.com
Girls will love having a bit of fun with this quirky logo that plays on the fantasy world that kids love to inhabit. The wording is set against a blush pink lightweight sweater that will pair really well with jeans or leggings for a casual look. Available for 9-15 year-olds.
7. FatFace Owl Jumper: £22, fatface.com
There’s no getting away from it – animal motifs are in this winter and girls are bound to be attracted to this top hat wearing owl, set against a teal coloured background. The jumper itself, which is available for four to 13 year-olds, is made from a soft cotton blend and is lovely and warm.
8. River Island Girls’ Beige: £18, riverisland.com
This is probably the most versatile jumper a girl could own this season. The plain beige will go with pretty much everything, and the cowl neck makes it casual enough to pair with most things. Great for layering and it washes well. Available for 3-12 year-olds.
9. John Lewis Girl Sequin Butterfly Jumper: from £20 www.johnlewis.com
We love this understated knitted teal jumper, with a subtle pattern of sequined butterflies around one shoulder. It’s just enough to give girls who love sparkles their fix, whilst staying practically dressed for winter too.
10. Barbour Fox Fairisle Knit Jumper: £49.95 www.johnlewis.com
This is quite pricey for a kid’s jumper, but the soft lambswool mix feels top quality, as well as warm and soft. The quirky take on the classic fairisle print makes for a cheerful design, which girls aged two to 14 will love pairing with trousers or a skirt.
11. Bluezoo Navy Striped Sequin Cherries Jumper: from £20, debenhams.com
Available from ages four to 14, this long jumper looks good with leggings, especially black, green or red ones and it has a nice balance of being casual, but with a touch of glam from the sequins. A particularly popular choice for tweens.
12. Mamas & Papas Bobble Jumper: £16, mamasandpapas.com
This chunky cream jumper has a colourful design down each side which, when coupled with the ribbed hem, makes for a really pretty jumper for newborns up to four-year-olds. It’s nice and warm, without being too heavy.
13. Jigsaw Spot Zip Back Sweater: from £35, jigsaw-online.com
Available from four to 13 years-old, this is beautiful quality and one to last right until they grow out of it, no matter how often they wear it. The touch of cashmere keeps it soft, whilst the wide neck makes it good for layering. The zip-back closure with velvet trim is a nice touch too.
Verdict
Mini Boden’s Fun Jumper is well-made and designed to last, as well as being the kind of pullover people stop to comment on. John Lewis’ Sequin Butterfly Jumper is another great find, particularly if you like your decoration to be a bit more grown-up.
