Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. From in-your-face leopard print to minimal mock croc, here’s our spring slip-on edit for all budgets.
You can trust our independent reviews. We may earn commission from some of the retailers, but we never allow this to influence selections, which are formed from real-world testing and expert advice. This revenue helps us to fund journalism across The Independent.
Matalan Slip On Patent Pumps: £10, matalan.co.uk
Matalan’s shoe offering is consistently on-trend and seriously affordable. This mock-crock pair with a white sole comes in navy, pastel pink or this rich oxblood.
Rocket Dog Duet: £39.99, rocketdog.co.uk
The crochet on these ones will add a bit of texture to your outfit and the bright floral lining makes us feel summery just looking at it. We’re fans of the bright pink version but they also come in black and a pale green. They come up quite big so you might find you need to go down a size.
River Island Black Embellished Chunky Sole Plimsols: £45, riverisland.com
If you like your shoes blingy, this limited-edition pair are embellished with hundreds of little silver studs. That and the chunky sole make them a good day-to-night option.
Zara Metallic Leather Slipons: £49.99 zara.co.uk
The fashion pack are wearing metallics this spring and silver is actually surprisingly versatile on a shoe. This is a great price for a leather pair and the espradrille-esque braiding gives them a summer twist.
Vans Kenya Slip-ons: £50, shop.vans.co.uk
Animal print takes on a whole new meaning with this big cat design, part of Vans’ latest collection. The brand’s known for its skater-style trainers, actually designed to skate in, so these ones are more hardwearing than many styles out there.
Superga 2311 Multi Hawaii: £50, superga.co.uk
These will add a serious pop of colour to your spring wardrobe and they will work for a (not-too-muddy) festival as well. If you don’t like Hawaiian red, they come in two other equally bright colourways.
Faith Leather Faux Pony Hair Slip On: £49, debenhams.com
A Pinky taupe faux pony and leather upper plus a metallic gold toe combine for a subtly-stylish, on-trend package. They also come in black if that’s more your bag.
Carvela Lux: £99, selfridges.com
We love this super-bright take on leopard print to see in the warmer weather (there’s a pink version too if you don’t like blue and green). The chunkier-than-average sole adds to the statement look. These are slip-ons gone luxe.
Ash Illusion Slip Ons: £89, farfetch.com
This European brand first got attention for its sporty wedges but they also do other styles that have caught our eye, including a big range of effortlessly-cool slip-ons. We’re fans of these unusual lace ones. Little details like the suede lining and padded insoles mean they’re super comfy.
Tamaris Navy Slip-ons: £30, zalando.co.uk
The pattern on these is floral with a punky edge, rather than twee flowers, and the colours are subtle enough to work with a lot of your wardrobe. We’ll be teaming ours with some boyfriend jeans.
Unisa Carola Palm: £115, unisa-europa.com
The colours on this palm-patterned pair from the Spanish brand are muted enough that they will go with loads, but still conjure-up images of Mediterranean beaches. With a leather lining and upper, these are a luxe way to work the slip-on trend.
Gola Delta Liberty Pumps: £60, simplybe.co.uk
Liberty’s collaborations always produce something a bit special and these Gola slip-ons featuring one of the department stores’s prints are no exception. As they come from an established trainer brand, you can expect comfort and durability. Choose from this versatile shade or a pink version.
Verdict
Both Faith and Zara’s offerings in taupe and silver respectively are a good price for leather shoes. If you have more to spend, Ash’s illusion pair are unusual but versatile and super-comfy.
