Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Estee Lauder limited edition repair renew hydrate advanced night repair serum gift set: Was £70, now £35 - Buy now
The term “cult status” gets thrown around a lot in the beauty sphere, but as one bottle of this Estee Lauder serum gets sold every 10 minutes worldwide, it’s safe to say it has earned the title.
An anti-ageing hero, advanced night repair works overnight while your skin’s natural recovery processes are at its peak, and claims to reduce fine lines and wrinkles while brightening and evening skin tone.
This set features a full size bottle of the serum, alongside four travel minis. While contents inside is worth £99, the set is currently half price, down from £70 to £35, an absolute steal.
The coveted serum has recently been reformulated, with new weighty packaging and ingredients. In our review comparing both formulas, our tester explained just how popular the classic formula is: “Its instantly recognisable brown jar graces the dressing tables of generations: grandmothers, mothers, daughters. Its success has inspired a whole advanced night repair range of oils and eye creams too.”
So which formula won us over? Our reviewer noted that there wasn’t a huge difference between old and new, but the latest version won by a small margin. They said: “After two weeks’ use, we couldn’t see a great difference between the two halves of our face.
“The only slight variance was that the right side, which took the new formula, felt a little firmer along the jawline and around the mouth, and held the springiness of hydration for an hour or two longer. The brand touted added firmness as one of the new improvements to the formula, so we were pleased to see this play out in our testing, albeit in a small way.”
Our reviewer was quite pleased to see that the formula hadn’t been tinkered with too much, given how popular it is: “The previous version was already so good it would be hard to improve upon, and the changes – in packaging, and in improving firmness and elasticity – while small are still improvements and nothing has been lost. Is this a radical reformulation? No. But is it still worth the hype? Absolutely.”
This set would make the perfect Christmas gift for your mum, best friend or yourself (no judgement here). Snap it up before it sells out.
