A number of carbon footprint calculators can be found online. This user-friendly one from the Nature Conservancy examines carbon expenditures in four categories: home energy, driving & flying, food & diet, and recycling & waste.

Another calculator, this one from Bon Appétit, is a thorough and entertaining look at food choices and low-carbon alternatives.
How to reduce your carbon footprint:
In this video, Patty Kim, correspondent for National Geographic's The Green Guide, proposes several practical, around-the-house tips for cutting carbon usage, with statistics about how each change will affect your yearly carbon footprint. Put all the tips into effect, says Kim, and you'll stop two tons of carbon dioxide from making it into the atmosphere.
