Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. In April the green-minded will turn their eyes towards the annual Green Awards in Dublin, honoring companies which promote sustainability and encourage environmental practice, and of course, the international celebrations of Earth Day.

The annual Green Awards aim to celebrate organizations that either directly or indirectly (through advertising, for example) promote sustainability and encourage environmentally friendly practices. This year the awards span over 20 categories including Green Healthcare and The Green Large Manufacturer Award. In 2010 Green Award winners included drinks company Diageo and energy company Airtricity. These awards are in no way associated with the annual Green Awards which are taking place in November this year in London, United Kingdom.

This environmental campaign is designed to raise awareness of ecological issues and promote environmental actions around the world. The campaigners hope that enough people around the world will make a sustainability or environment-related pledge via the site and are aiming to have collected a 'billion acts of green' before the Earth Summit in Rio de Janerio in 2012. Other aspects of this year's Earth Day campaign include 'Athletes for the Earth' in which Olympic sportsmen and women lend their voices to the environmental movement. More information and details on local events can be found via the site.

Asia Solar is an exhibition of solar power focusing on industry professionals. The products exhibited at Asia Solar range from photovoltaic cells for domestic use to industrial quality manufacturing equipment. However despite the professional focus, some of Asia's latest consumer-oriented photovoltaic developments are expected to be exhibited at the show. Though the event lacks the established presence of Energaia (December 8-11, 2010) for example, Asia Solar is growing both in terms of exhibitors and reputation. Running concurrently to this event is Smart Gridtec China, an exhibition and conference on smart grid technologies aimed at professionals only.
