Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Whether your bike is your main means of getting around or just a bit of weekend fun, you’ll want to look after it.

We’ve sniffed out some great ways to keep your cycle secure and out of the weather at home, in the garden or at work.

Some of them are super-practical designs that will thwart even the most determined thief, others will let you show off your pride and joy as though it’s a work of art hanging on your wall.

Hiplok Airlok: £116.99, Evans Cycles

Stylish design and high security come together in this Gold Sold Secure-rated locking wall hanger. You’ll need to find a load-bearing wall to bolt it to, but once in place it won’t be going anywhere – and neither will your beloved bike.

We’re told that in tests, the wall gave up the ghost before the fixings! It comes with three keys and there’s a rubberised frame protector to prevent scratches.

Three colours are available – red, white and grey – and it’ll look great in your home or garage.

Bike Parka Urban: £31.99, Evans Cycles

Here’s a cool cagoule for your mean machine. The hard wearing Parka with its sealed seams will keep the weather at bay outdoors or stop you getting covered in chain oil each time you brush past if you use it indoors.

Fitting is a wee bit fiddly at first but you’ll get used to it – just slip it over the front wheel and pull into place using the toggle to tighten it up.

There are Velcro panels at the sides so you can put a lock through it, and it comes in its own stuff-sack.

We found it best suited to drop handlebars but there are versions available to suit all shapes and sizes.

Saris Parking Bike Bunk: £125.09, Evans Cycles

Good old gravity keeps this two-up bike rack in place. You just rest it against a wall, adjust the arms to suit your frames, and bingo!

There are sleeves to protect your paintwork, plus cushioned pads for the walls and floor. It comes with a lifetime warranty and you can join two Bunks together to make a free-standing four-bike unit.

One to look at if the thought of drilling walls fills you with dread.

Cycloc Endo: £35.99, Wiggle

Our favourite cycling cafe has been using these for a while now and they’ve never let us down. You screw the folding loop into a suitable wall and flip down the loop to hold your front wheel.

A stick-on lower pad stops your rear tyre marking the paintwork or wallpaper. It’ll hold bikes up to a whopping 18kg and you can go even heavier if you rest the back wheel on the floor.

You can also feed through a U-lock and cable to stop anyone running off with your pride and joy.

Asgard Access Four-bike Store: £525, Asgard

This one’s the daddy of all bike storage solutions – a tough metal shed with a locking system to keep thieves at bay and an easy-lift lid on gas struts.

You can even bolt it to the floor to stop anyone trying to haul it away. Shelves and hooks are available to hold your bike-related bits and bobs, and it’s built from thick, galvanised steel.

The whole lot comes with a 10-year warranty and even bigger versions are available if you’ve got a peloton of bikes in your household.

Bikehut 3 Bike Storage Tent: £30, Halfords

If you’re heading off camping this summer, this could be one for you. It’ll keep your bikes and kit out of the weather while you try to light the barbecue.

We found it better suited to just two bikes, rather than a trio, but it’s a doddle to put up and should keep them safe in all but stormy weather.

Tent-style poles and guy lines keep the structure up and in place, and there’s a simple zip opening to get everything in and out.

Cactus Tongue: £129, Sigma Sports

Turn your favourite bike into a piece of wall art with this gorgeous stainless steel hanger.

You can hang it up by the cross bar, handlebars or seat tube, and the bike rests on a pair of soft leather sleeves which are available in a range of colours.

It’ll support up to 20kg. Fixing it to the wall is simple, but if you’re in any doubt about your DIY skills make sure you get a professional in to do the job.

Feedback Sports Velo Wall Post: £29.99, Tredz

Such a simple idea yet so practical – this one’s just a bar on a bracket you can screw to a suitable wall and the flip down when you need it.

You can hang a bike or spare wheels off it and there’s a port you can thread a cable lock through for extra security. When not in use, you just fold it up and out of the way.

BikeHut Universal Bike Stand: £20, Halfords

Here’s one for all those people who hate having to lean their precious cycle against a wall or, horror of horrors, another bike.

The spring-loaded arm will hold your rear wheel secure and you can lock a few of them together if you have a fleet of bikes you need to support.

It works for bikes of various sizes, from kids' models through to adult. You can also use it while carrying out basic repairs, or throw it in the back of the car and take it along to your next race or sportive.

Cycloc Solo: £64.95, Cycloc

Cool and clever, this simple design has won loads of awards over the past few years. It’s a plastic structure that bolts to a wall, with slots to hold the frame in position.

There’s room inside for smaller biking accessories and you can balance your helmet on top.

Holes in the main body allow you to use a cable lock and it comes with an extra spacer so you can use it with wider handlebars.

There’s a range of seven colours and it makes a great talking point in a trendy flat.

Oxford Aquatex Outdoor Cover: £14.99, Wiggle

Bike protection doesn’t get simpler than this rain-proof cover. It’ll keep the weather off if you park outside – or hold dust and damp at bay if you use it inside a shed or garage.

The whole lot packs down into an integrated, zipped pocket, and there’s a carrying packet for long-term storage.

It feels fairly flimsy but we tried – and failed – to rip it. Even if it lasts just one year, at this price you’re getting a bargain.
