David Maddox is the political editor of The Independent and has been covering politics on national, regional and local levels for more than a quarter of a century as a journalist. He has worked in Westminster since 2010 and before that the Scottish Parliament. A former Press Gazette UK journalist of the year winner, David has also been a leading member of award-winning teams for three campaigns. He has covered seven general elections and three referendums including Brexit and Scottish independence. While David started in old fashioned print journalism, he has had a longstanding interest in moving over to digital and was three times shortlisted for digital journalist of the year in Scotland. David's previous stops in a long career were the Stratford-upon-Avon Herald, Portsmouth News, Aberdeen Evening Express, The Scotsman, The Daily Express, Sunday Express and Express online.
