Your support makes all the difference.THE OPENING EVENT of the Shoreditch Biennale - London's first international photography festival - will be 'Plastic Metropolis', an evening of large-scale outdoor projections featuring the work of contemporary, cutting-edge photographers who have shot urban life after dark.
The event is sponsored by Olympus, which is offering a state-of-the- art digital camera (worth pounds 1,300) to one imaginative IoS reader. To be in the running, submit an idea, in no more than 50 words, for a photograph or a series of photographs dealing with the theme of urban street-life at night, to be made using the Olympus C14000L SLR digital camera. The winner will be given this camera and an Olympus P-300E digital printer (right), as well as the opportunity to realise their proposal and have the results published in the Independent on Sunday Review. Judges will include the Picture Editor of the Sunday Review and the Directors of the Shoreditch Biennale.
Digital cameras are easy to use, and give immediate results. They store images on SmartMedia cards which can be reused. Images can be viewed on the camera's screen, or 'developed' in seconds via the printer. If the camera is plugged into a Mac or PC, images can be manipulated. Image quality rivals that of 35mm cameras.
