Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Each of the film's 32 vignettes, which span Gould's life from the age of four to his early death at 50, represents a variation on his life and work. The result, starring Colm Feore as the adult Gould, is a mesmerising kaleidoscope, sometimes abstract, sometimes narrative, mixing actors with Gould's real-life friends and relatives, and framed by Gould's own musical performances. Thirty Two Short Films About enn Gould is released tomorrow on video (Electric Pictures) and costs £15.99; but we have 15 VHS copies of the video and 15 copies of Otto Friedrich's acclaimed biography, Glenn Gould: A Life and Variations (Methuen, £12.99) to give away. To enter, simply answer the following question, on a postcard to: Glenn Gould, Arts Desk, Independent on Sunday, 1 Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London E14 5DL. The closing date is Friday 10 March.

n ON 19 FEBRUARY, we ran a competition offering readers the chance to win a Fifties-style Art Deco "Retrovisor" television set worth £699, or a private screening for 50 people of the hit film Quiz Show, courtesy of Buena Vista. We asked readers to come up with questions to match the following answers:
1 "Waif", not "Alf". (With what do you rhyme the Ralph in Ralph Fiennes?)
2 He got out of his car and shouted across to him, asking for directions. (How did Ralph Fiennes meet Charles Van Doren, whom he plays in Quiz Show?)
3 Amon Goeth. (What was the name of Fiennes' character in Schindler's List?)
The winner of the TV set is V C Pennington of London NW6; the winner of the screening is J Coleman of Merton College, Oxford. Our thanks to everyone who entered.
