This age-old tradition involves dancing around the trees in the Abbey orchard dressed in a "tatty" coat, with bits of red and green fabric on (these symbolise the apples and the leaves). This apparently encourages the fruit to grow. Apple cake and cider are on offer later.
Spooky Walk

Ghosts, murder and dark secrets of the street are promised on this one- and-a-half-hour guided walk, which visits a graveyard and a haunted inn. Meet at the Tourist Information Centre in Bartholomew Square. Not suitable for children of a nervous disposition.

This weekend The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds begins its season of cruises along the Exe river. Leading the first cruise to see the avocets, the wading birds that winter in the estuary, will be Nick Baker of The Really Wild Show and Watch Out fame. Cruises last about four hours. NS
