Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Get cheap flights around the United States?

Southwest Airlines, the leading low-cost carrier, has opened a representative office near Gatwick Airport, selling cut-price tickets to British travellers. Call 01293 596677 for details of the "Freedom USA Pass". This costs pounds 49 per flight within the western US, pounds 63 within the central and eastern zones. A flight between the two areas costs pounds 83. On a Los Angeles-Chicago flight, this compares with a fare of between pounds 133 and pounds 203 normally charged on Southwest.

A little-known Caribbean island?

Take advantage of the new offer from the Colombian carrier Avianca (0990 767747), which is selling return tickets to any destination in its home country - including the splendid isle of San Andres - for pounds 422 plus tax.

Miss your flight to Australia?

If it's on Qantas (0345 747767), and you are travelling after 25 October, just turn up at Heathrow Terminal 3. The Australian airline strengthens its link with British Airways by moving flights to Terminal 4, where BA intercontinental flights arrive and depart - a good half-hour away on the transfer bus.

Check out the Guggenheim, new and old?

Travel with Time Off to Bilbao and New York City in The Independent on Saturday, 18 October. Plus the definitive 48-hour guide to Prague, and the inside track on Melbourne.
