Jamal Edwards MBE: my proper night in
The founder of media empire, SB.TV, on how he likes to unwind at home
He started his career as an amateur film maker, but Jamal Edwards MBE's media empire, SB.TV, earned him worldwide recognition. When he’s at home, however, he’s a curry-loving, channel surfing fan of Atlanta and Mrs Doubtfire.
You’re a very busy man. Does that make a night in a real treat?
Definitely. I’m always out, especially on the weekend, so it’s great when I get the chance to have a chilled one at my flat. I’ll sometimes go to the gym and try to eat clean at home… and other times I’ll have mates around and we’ll just flick and watch whatever’s on.
Are you a channel-hopper, then?
Yeah, I love it. I do have programmes I like to watch, such as The Walking Dead, Atlanta, or Celebrity Juice, but I also like giving something random a go. The other day I watched Lovesick, which is something my sister might like, but I enjoyed it. Then I was laughing at Mrs Doubtfire. It’s good to mix it up.
What’s your ideal night in?
I like to get a can of ginger beer and an Indian curry. I’ll get on the PlayStation and I’ll just get dragged in. I order far too much food, so I fall asleep. Then I wake up at 2am and start watching something. Suddenly it’s 6am and I’ve messed up my body clock. I’m falling asleep for the whole next day.
Who is your dream sofa sharer?
Early doors, Frank Lampard to watch the football, and after the match he could leave and Jennifer Lopez could come over.
What’s your ideal binge TV?
Game of Thrones. I was late to it, but when I fractured my ankle and was stuck inside, I watched every episode in two weeks. I was gripped.
What makes you shout at the telly?
Watching England. During the World Cup I had butterflies. I was on edge for the whole thing.
Finally, what’s your favourite Propercorn flavour?
I love sweet and salty — it’s a classic.
