Designer Kelly Anna's proper night in
The creative mind behind Propercorn's Sweet & Salty packaging shares her top TV picks and perfect evening in
Designer Kelly Anna has worked for brands including Nike and H&M as well as creating prints for the likes of Beyoncé and Cara Delevingne and illustrating Propercorn’s Sweet & Salty pack. She tells us about her perfect evening in.
Does being out a lot make staying in more special?
Yes. I’m out all the time — exhibitions or just at the pub. So that makes staying in a real treat. I rent a top-floor flat in Peckham with a nice rooftop terrace and city view. I like making the most of it.
What’s your ideal night in?
Inviting lots of my closest mates over. A lot of them are also artists, and it’s great to get together. We will cook, drink red wine, and there will be a weird documentary on. We talk and laugh a lot — about work, life, everything. We’re like a little family.
What will be on the menu?
A lot of us have got into a plant-based diet, so it’ll be something vegan. We had a big lentil curry recently.
What’s on the stereo?
Jazz. I’m currently in love with the saxophone, and I’ve actually put a lot of sax into my art. I just love the sound.
What would you watch on TV?
I’m obsessed with documentaries. I love crime ones — Making A Murderer, The Staircase, that kind of thing. I also like a design show called Abstract. But the best programme of all time is Absolutely Fabulous.
Can you stop yourself from working?
I must admit I will quite often have a doodle. I’m a workaholic, so I have to schedule time off. But I find art relaxing, so it doesn’t always feel like work.
Lots of famous people have worn your clothes. Which of them would you like to invite round?
Obviously Beyoncé would be pretty great. I’d dish up some vegan food, pour her a wine, and ask her about a million questions.
Finally, what’s your favourite Propercorn flavour?
Sweet & salty. And it’s not just because I designed the pack — it’s definitely the best flavour. It’s delicious.
