At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Since the first Avengers film, Marvel Studios has released numerous TV shows tying into their larger cinematic universe, starting with Agents of SHIELD and including Netflix’s Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage.

Fox are seemingly looking to recreate the studio’s success with their own Marvel franchise, expanding the X-Men film franchise to TV screens.

Unlike the upcoming show Legion, Fox has commissioned a pilot episode for an as-yet-untitled Marvel action-adventure drama that will take place in the same cinematic universe as the films.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, who discovered the pilot’s order, the show will focus on ‘two ordinary parents’ who discover their children are mutants.

The description continues: “Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.”

Burn Notice showrunner Matt Nix is penning the script, having previously said of the show fitting into the wider X-Men universe: "If you look at the movies, which take place from — they started in 2003 to now [the first film was actually 2000] — they don't all line up perfectly.

“I'm not slavishly fitting them into a particular slot. But at the same time, if you like the world of the movies, there are definite nods to the movies. It exists in the same general universe.”

Interestingly, like how Marvel Studios is producing the upcoming Legion, Marvel's Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory will also produce the currently untitled X-Men show.
