From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Last weekend’s X Factor Live show was Viva Latino week, many singers struggling with the Spanish vocals and dancing.

One person to truly embrace the theme was judge Nicole Scherzinger, who many viewers thought was putting on a Spanish accent.

“Why is Nicole Scherzinger talking with a broken Spanish accent tonight?” asked one Tweeter. “It's really annoying me.”

The former Pussycat Doll — who was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and raised in Louisville, Kentucky — also drew attention after not wearing a poppy for the opening segment.

However, after an advert break, the singer was seen wearing one, explaining herself later on Twitter: “I’m always late, it fell off running to stage and replaced it as soon we could! I have the upmost respect for everything it stands for!”

The weekend was a tough one for Scherzinger whose contestant Kevin Davy White may have won the sing-off, while Tracy Leanne Jefford lost the public vote.

Speaking about Jefford on the show, Scherzinger said: “She is the heart of the show, she is what the show is all about and she will continue to be the heart of the show.”

The X Factor airs 8:10pm on ITV every Saturday.
