Jake Quickenden has become the fourth contestant to leave The X Factor 2014.

The 24-year-old sang to stay in the competition against four-piece band Only The Young after being voted in the bottom two by the public.

After taking to the stage to perform “Red” by Daniel Merriweather, the judges voted to keep Only The Young in the competition, who they deemed to have the most potential.

Mel B voted to save her act with Louis choosing to save his band, while Simon and Cheryl both chose to send Jake home.

The 24-year-old sung “She’s Like the Wind” for Saturday night’s ‘Movie Night’. But the judges said he struggled with the song, and Cheryl warned things were getting worse for him as the competition became tougher.

Voting to keep Only The Young, who performed Abba’s “The Winner Takes It All” to stay in the competition, Cheryl said he had to choose the act with the “most potential”.

Simon echoed her views in choosing to keep the band, but passed comment on the low standard of the sing off.

“I want to be honest with you both, they were both terrible. I don’t know what’s going on with the sing offs here, this is two weeks in a row.”

Speaking of his time on the show, Jake said: “I’ve met some absolutely amazing people and I’ll keep going and I’m going to try to find out the artist I want to be, you never know what’s around the corner.”

Jake’s mentor Mel B said through tears: “If you could see how hard this man works everyday…I don’t know what to say, I’m just sad, bye”.

The results show also saw performances from Ed Sheeran and US band One Republic, who have written songs for X Factor alumna Ella Henderson.
