From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

After what’s felt like an eternity of waiting, Westworld finally returns next month, no doubt bringing many more mysteries for fans to digest.

With anticipation building, the showrunners have been revealing snippets of information about the upcoming season, the latest offering a significant clue about what’s to come.

According to the show’s creator Jonathan Nolan, each season has a title — a title used only by the writers and producers to signify the components of each series.

“If the first season was a journey inward, this is a journey outward,” Nolan told EW. “This is a search for what is else is beyond the park, and what else is in the park. Are there more parks? How big is the park? What’s beyond the park?

“We think of our seasons as discrete components in the series, to the point where we’ve named our seasons. The first season was called ‘The Maze.’ The second season is called ‘The Door.’”

The first season of Westworld, as avid watchers know, featured the hosts attempting to reach the centre of the maze. However, the maze was not a place, but true consciousness.

What ‘The Door’ means will likely remain a mystery for some time. A door, perhaps, to the other worlds, such as ShogunWorld? Another hidden door that Bernard can’t see? A metaphorical door leading to “a journey outwards” for the hosts?

Whatever the case, we’ll be watching along when Westworld returns 22 April.
