Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

HBO has released the trailer for the final episode of Westworld season 2, with William declaring: "This is the end. Nothing else is in the way now."

It opens with the familiar phrase "freeze all motor functions", but uttered by the unfamiliar voice of Dolores.

A fast-paced montage follows that teases a number of intriguing visuals, as we glimpse James Delos in the labs, Dolores and Bernard standing before what looks to be a vast archive or library and later in Delos' fidelity test apartment, plus Logan is seen through flashback next to a pool and leading Dolores and Bernard around.

Most curiously, we get a couple of shots with the world appearing to have a crack in it, Clementine slowly advancing towards it on horseback.

Westworld's plot has been even more labyrinthine in season 2 than in season 1, and has an awful lot to answer in its season climax.

Entitled 'The Passenger', the feature-length finale hits HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK on Sunday night.
