The fourth run of Chris Lang’s hit ITV drama came to a devastating close on Monday (29 March) with the departure of a major cast member.
This left viewers wondering if the episode was serving as an overall finale to the show, which first began in 2015.
Fortunately for fans, it seems as though Lang has more episodes of Unforgotten up his sleeve after teasing an announcement on Twitter.

The fourth series ended with the death of DCI Cassie Stuart (Nicola Walker) following the car accident at the end of the penultimate episode.
In devastating scenes, DI Sunil “Sunny” Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar) discovered the news and could be heard eulogising his best friend while visiting her grave.
Tweeting after the episode, Lang wrote: “It has been an uncomplicated joy making 4 seasons of #Unforgotten with #NicolaWalker. ‘We can be sad that we’ve lost someone we adored & who we will miss every day, but we also be grateful for the time we did have together’. More news on #Unforgotten to follow shortly.”
Lang’s choice of words certainly make it seem like the show will continue in some capacity.
However, the show’s casting director, Victor Jenkins, seemingly revealed that the show as fans know it is over.
“End of an era,” he wrote. “Nearly 400 actors over 4 superb seasons. An absolute joy of a job to do, and consistently stellar performances from everybody.”
Viewers were left heartbroken by the death of Walker’s character in Unforgotten. After it aired, Bhaskar shared a note written by his co-star that made him cry on the final day of shooting.
The Independent has contacted ITV for an update on the future of the series.
