From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.HBO is yet to give an official green light to new seasons for TV shows True Detective and The Night Of, but fresh comments from programming president Casey Bloys all but confirms it will be returning at some stage in the future.
Bloys was speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour when he shed some light on the future of both shows, expressing that the creators of each were "closing in on ideas they are excited about."
A follow-up to Nic Pizzolatto's crime anthology True Detective - the second run of which was in no way as well-received as its debut - seemed unlikely with the showrunner moving onto other projects - chief of which was a Perry Mason reboot starring Robert Downey Jr.
Only last summer did Bloys re-ignite expectation for a new series after stating it was "not dead." The second season of the series dropped original stars Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey (who is open to returning, excitingly) in favour of an entirely new cast comprised of Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn and Rachel McAdams.
Steven Zaillian's crime series The Night Of - a passion project of the late James Gandolfini - debuted to rave reviews last year with many praising the central performance from John Turturro and Rogue One actor Riz Ahmed who picked upa Golden Globe nomination for his role.
With the creative process behind each series now seeming to be moving, it's only a matter of time before official word lands. Following a huge year with both Game of Thrones and Westworld, HBO will be looking to emulate that success with the penultimate season of the former as well as the final outing for The Leftovers.
Here's our TV preview of everything you should look out for this year.
