From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Trevor Noah roasted Stephen Miller in response to the Trump advisor’s insistence that the presidential election results can still be overturned.

The host dedicated part of his Daily Show on Monday to the electoral college’s affirmation of Joe Biden’s victory. Each state’s electors met on Monday to assign Electoral College votes, with a final tally of 306 for Biden and 232 for Donald Trump. This reflects the results that were called on 7 November.

However, Trump and his campaign, including Miller, have continued to insist that the results aren’t final. Those claims are baseless and based on false claims of election fraud. Legal efforts on the Trump campaign’s part have been futile and resulted in a rebuke by the Supreme Court.

“There is nothing more that Donald Trump can do. Or that’s what you might think,” Noah said on Monday. “Because Donald Trump did not become a successful businessman by accepting that he was a failed businessman, and he’s not about to accept that he lost the Electoral College either.”

He then played a clip of Miller claiming in a Fox News interview that the Trump campaign has “more than enough time” left to overturn the election results.

“Stephen Miller’s just going to reject reality, the same way his hair just rejected his head?” Noah mused.

He added: “I understand the desperation. I really do. I mean, what is Stephen Miller going to do once Trump is out of office? Collect tolls under his old bridge?”

Biden’s inauguration will take place on 20 January 2021.
