From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Immediately after the third Presidential debate finished, Trevor Noah appeared on his Comedy central show breaking down the event into a ten-minute segment, lambasting both candidates but primarily Donald Trump.

“This was like a bachelorette party,” he told viewers, “except the giant novelty dildo was on stage behind a podium.”

The first major talking point was Trump inviting current President Barack Obama’s half brother along to the debate, something described by his campaign as “just the appetiser.”

“That’s the appetiser for the wrong table,” Noah joked. “Do you think Hilary is looking out like ‘Oh no, it’s Obama’s half-brother.’ That doesn’t make any sense.”

Later on, Noah mocked Hilary and her attempt to blame Russia for her email leak: “Now the information is out there, you can’t just blame Russia. No one else gets away with that, like ‘yeah, honey, how did you find out I had stripper glitter on my shirt. Was it Putin?’”

Attention eventually turned back to Trump and his attempt at labelling Clinton a Russian puppet. “To be fair,” Noah said, “Trump thinks all women are puppets, that’s why he’s always trying to stick his hand up them.” Noah then finished with a damning final line: “That’s it. That’s the final time we’ll see Donald Trump on the debate stage – before we all refer to him as ‘Supreme Leader’.”

Meanwhile, Stephen Colbert also lampooned Trump on his late night show, paying particular attention to Trump’s seeming dismissal of democracy.
