From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

After a rather tumultuous journey to TV screens, the first episode of the new series of Top Gear will finally air Sunday, 29 May.

We'll just have to see whether this first outing can survive the horde of negative rumours swirling the production, with its filming on Thursday reportedly seeing dozens of audience members leaving the studio before the show had finished filming.

That's on top of the co-hosts having to dismiss claims they fell out, a change in management, and a flurry of controversy surrounding filming near the Cenotaph. Well, fingers crossed then...

Along with our guide to everything you need to know for the very first episode of the revamped Top Gear, the BBC has released its first images from the premiere; featuring co-hosts Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc.

You can also get a glimpse of the episode's celebrity guests, Batman v Superman actor Jesse Eisenberg and chef Gordon Ramsay; who will both partake in Star in a Rallycross Car, the announced replacement to Star in a Reasonably Priced Car.
