The series, created by Shawn Ryan (The Shield) and Eric Kripke (Supernatural), will now return for a ten-episode second season in 2018.
Timeless follows a history professor, a soldier and an engineer whose mission to track down a stolen time machine unearths a conspiracy which could see the past changed.
Despite winning over a dedicated fanbase, the series failed to avoid the axe due to falling ratings throughout the past network TV season.
NBC bosses have made no secret about the fact it's the fans who helped aid Timeless' resurrection. Chairman Robert Greenblatt said: “We heard from fans and the outcry and we woke up the next morning and thought, ‘Let’s figure out how to bring it back.' We went back to the drawing board in every way.“
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will be more “family-friendly” upon its return which will see more investment from the studio to ensure the series remains on the air.
