From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Joseph Maldonado-Passage is seen in the Netflix documentary marrying John Finlay and Travis Maldonado, in a sequence that lasts a bit more than a minute. The show then takes a closer look at the relationships and their aftermath.
A clip uploaded to the JoeExotic TV YouTube channel shows the ceremony in full, with additional footage of the lead-up to the event.
The video has been available online since 2014 but has received renewed attention following the release of Tiger King in March.
Maldonado-Passage is seen shopping for outfits before the ceremony.
Guests, members of the wedding party, and the officiant then gather for the event.
“Even by modern standards ...this is an unusual wedding,” the officiant says at one point. All three grooms then exchange rings before each grabbing a candle to light a larger one together.
The clip lasts for 23 minutes and includes footage of the reception.
John Finlay eventually left the relationship.
As documented in Tiger King, Travis Maldonado died in 2017 after accidentally shooting himself in the head.
