From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The Walking Dead season 8 continued with a bleak episode which saw the fallout of last week’s devastating outing which saw Carl succumb to his walker bite.

Titled ‘The Lost and the Plunderers,’ twos latest instalment was divided into sections with different characters, including Michonne, Jadis and Enid, taking centre stage.

The episode saw Rick given the letters which Carl wrote before he died, one of which we learn is addressed to The Saviours’ leader, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

Rick reads the later, and it’s briefly shown on screen - while a large part of the letter remains unintelligible, we managed to decipher parts of it which we have written out (with help from Screenrant) in fragments below.

someone. I got bit. We didn’t ever…

doing… I was just helping someone. And…

You might be gone. Maybe my dad…

he killed you – but I don’t think so. I think…

working on a way out. Maybe you got out. Maybe…

lost cause and you just want to kill all of us.

I think you have to be who you are. I…

…’s what you wanted. I wanted to ask you…

Maybe you’ll beat us. If you do, there’ll just…

…The way out is working together. It’s forgiveness…

…have to be a part…

…offers you peace…

…start…"
