Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

This weekend sees the dreaded midseason finale of The Walking Dead.

Going by midseason finales past, it's a fair bet that a traumatising event will rock this episode which looks to pull together the many strands presented over the course of the past seven episodes, including Carol and Morgan at the Kingdom, Maggie and Sasha at the Hilltop Colony, Daryl at the Sanctuary and - terrifyingly - Negan at Alexandria.

The episode is titled 'Hearts Still Beating' - we're willing to bet that by its climax, the heart of at least one character we know and love won't be.

You can watch the episode's tense trailer here.

Which characters are currently in the running to be offed? Based on Negan's presence at Alexandria, it could range from a wide selection: Eugene (Josh McDermitt), Rosita (Christian Serratos), Spencer (Austin Nichols), Tara (Alana Masterson), Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam), Olivia (Ann Mahoney) and even Carl (Chandler Riggs).

Last week's episode saw a showdown between Negan and Carl (Chandler Riggs), a moment comic book fans have been waiting since they heard the antagonist would be showing up; you can watch us discussing the episode's five major talking points below.
