From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In case you were worried that The Walking Dead season 5 would see everyone just chill out and be nice to one another, Andrew Lincoln has confirmed that it will be as death-filled as ever, possibly seeing some major characters bumped off.

Asked about the show's rampant killing off of its characters, Lincoln told Entertainment Weekly: "It is an inevitable part of this show. It’s one of the great things, I think, that you have real jeopardy for favourite characters. It won’t be without its share of death this season."

Showrunner Scott Gimple recently said that season 5 will be "completely different" to four, and go to "new places".

Lincoln also discussed the new Rick Grimes we'll be seeing when the show returns in October.

"You find Rick in an incredibly dangerous and powerful place this season," he said."

"He’s not in any doubt about his brutality as well as his humanity, and I think he’s made peace with that.

"But that does not negate him being a great father. I think that everything is about the children and his family. If you stand alongside him, you’re his family.

"If you stand against him, then you’re a problem."
