Lauren Cohan, who appears on the AMC series as Maggie Greene, has been cast as the female lead in Whiskey Cavalier, an action-comedy-drama pilot from Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence.
While Deadline reports Cohan's deal leaves the option open for her to remain on The Walking Dead, fans will no doubt be concerned considering the fact that news of casting in other shows swiftly leads to a series departure (see: Star Trek: Discovery lead Sonequa Martin-Green).
Regardless, viewers will need to get used to less Maggie with the character set to be slashed to recurring status should Cohan make a new deal with AMC despite the production schedules allowing her to appear on both shows should Whiskey Cavalier receive a full series get ordered.
The new series follows FBI agent Will Chase (Scott Foley) who leads an interagency team of spies alongside cunning CIA operative Francesca “Frankie” Trowbridge (Cohan).
Cohan has appeared on The Walking Dead since season 2. Her contract comes to an end when the latest season does and, after seeking parity with male co-stars Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus, AMC is reported to have offered Cohan a modest salary increase in exchange for a long-term contract. She rejected this and no additional offers were made.
Another cast member fans are concerned will leave the show is Danai Gurira following her show-stopping turn in Marvel blockbuster Black Panther.
The Walking Dead season 8 returns to AMC in the US on 25 February with the UK premiere arriving the next evening on FOX. The episode will also be shown on NOWTV. F
