From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

After rumours of Harry Shearer, voice of Ned Flanders and Mr Burns, leaving The Simpsons circulated online fans have begun to feel maybe their favourite yellow family should think about calling it quits.

Matt Lucas and the crew were quick to notice fans abandoning the show and so decided to renew hope in the series by releasing a very, very cool ‘coach gag’ online.

The gag starts the way we’ve seen a thousand times before; Bart skateboarding over Homers car, Marge crashing him through a door, the classic rush to the coach.

However, just as the family settle down to watch some TV *BANG* a spaceship comes crashing through the wall, turning everyone into goo. It’s none other than Rick and Morty from the cult Adult Swim comedy.

“O My God Morty what did you do, you killed The Simpsons Morty. God, look at the baby one Morty, they’re a beloved family Morty, they’re a national treasure and you killed them.”

Comedy ensues as you would expect with Morty being sent to a dodgy planet to get replacement Simpsons, while Rick hangs back and steals everything he can find, in the process freezing Ned.

The gag comes months after The Simpsons crossed over with Family Guy in an attempt to boost interest in the series.

Are we about to see a landslide of Simpsons crossovers? South Park, we’re looking at you.
