Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie will be back for more mishaps and adventures in Springfield until at least the 28th run of the hit animated series, US network Fox has revealed.
The Simpsons is already the longest-running primetime TV show in history and its success shows no signs of easing up, meaning creators Matt Groening and Al Jean are going to be busy for a while yet.
The popular comedy first began 26 years ago and will reach a massive 625 episodes after the 27th and 28th seasons air, with 22 new episodes per season.
Homer boasted of his staying power in Fox's announcement. “I've outlasted Letterman, Jon Stewart and McDreamy, because I have something they don't: a costly 200-donut-a-day addiction,” the character said Homer said, with nods to both the retiring CBS Late Show host and Patrick Dempsey's ill-fated Grey's Anatomy character.
Lena Dunham is set to star in the season 27 premiere as a pretty pharmacist called Candace. Prepare for a shock, as Marge may just be contemplating filing for divorce from Homer because of an illicit affair...
