At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner's new series is officially happening - and there's a short teaser trailer to prove it.

The Romanoffs was first confirmed back in 2016 when Amazon Studios announced a high-profile deal with the showrunner - said to be worth $70m - and two years later, a release date of 12 October has been set.

Weiner has attracted top-tier talent for the project which is an anthology series following a group of people from around the world who believe they're descendants of the Russian royal family who were executed by the Bolsheviks in July 1918. You can find a full list of all the impressive ensemble, which includes Aaron Eckhart, Isabelle Huppert as well as Mad Men stars Christina Hendricks and John Slattery below.

The project was thrown into danger last year after Amazon Studios cut ties with the Weinstein Company following the numerous allegations of sexual assault and harassment made against disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. Consequently, a planned series from filmmaker David O' Russell was cancelled but production went ahead on Weiner's show.
