From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The movie either made us sob through entire boxes of tissues or feel ever so slightly nauseous back in 2004 and now, The Notebook is being made into a TV series.
Nicholas Sparks' romantic 1996 novel of the same name will again be the basis for a show on the The CW network, with president Mark Pedowitz confirming to Entertainment Weekly that it is in the early stages of development.
The pilot script is not yet finished, but we do know a few key things so far. Firstly, the series will be set post-World War II and secondly, it will focus solely on the younger version of the couple, played by Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in the film. Presumably that means none of those harrowing nursing home scenes when Allie has Alzheimer's.
Here's the official synopsis: "This series will follow the romantic journey of the two beloved central characters Noah and Allie, at the outset of their blossoming relationship as they built their lives and their future together against the backdrop of the racial politics, economic inequities and social mores of the late 1940s in North Carolina."
Pedowtiz told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour that he is "thrilled" Nick Sparks wanted to do The Notebook at The CW, where he will serve as co-executive producer with Theresa Park.
Casting and air date details remain unknown at this stage but it's unlikely that Gosling and McAdams will return for a small screen outing, not least because rumour has it they did not get along very well on set.
Regardless, better stock up on the popcorn and tissues sharpish.
