From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. After the latest episode of The Masked Singer, fans are trying to guess which celebrities might be behind the elaborate costumes.

On Saturday’s (2 January) episode, former Spice Girls star Mel B was unveiled as the second contestant, in her disguise as Seahorse.

On social media, many appear to have drawn the conclusion that Viking, who also appeared on the episode, is singer James Blunt.

Many said they had spotted a number of clues around the character’s impressive performance of “Songbird” by Fleetwood Mac, which received a standing ovation from the judges.

“I’m convinced Viking is James Blunt because it sounds exactly like him,” one claimed.

One suggested that the comment, “I may be a Viking but I also wear another kind of armour” was a reference to Blunt’s time in the army.

Another seemed to believe that the emphasis on “king” was a reference to Blunt serving in the Life Guards.

Fans have previously (incorrectly) guessed that Blunt was behind several different masks in the first series.

In the first episode, Alien was revealed as pop star Sophie Ellis-Bextor after performing a rendition of Dua Lipa’s hit “Don’t Start Now”.

Appearing as judges on the second series of the UK version of the show are Rita Ora, Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall and Jonathan Ross.
