The identity of the white tiger on The Masked Singer has been revealed – hours after the show announced a contribution to coronavirus relief efforts.

Judge Ken Jeong explained on Wednesday afternoon that the show would donate thousands of protective masks to hospitals.

“Hi, this is Ken Jeong. Fox and The Masked Singer have purchased 10,000 FDA-approved N95 surgical masks,” he said in a Twitter video posted on the show’s account.

“They arrived in New York yesterday, and will be delivered to hospitals in dire need of equipment.

“On behalf of everybody on The Masked Singer, we are sending all of our love, thoughts, and best wishes to all effected by the coronavirus, aka Covid-19. Stay safe and healthy, and – love you.”

Wednesday's episode ended hours later with the white tiger being revealed as none other than Rob Gronkowski.

The former tight end for the New England Patriots was voted off the show, meaning he had to take off his mask and finally reveal his identity.

Earlier in the programme, a still-anonymous Gronkowski gave a gestual clue strongly implying he was an athlete – though some were left thinking he was an NBA player instead of an NFL star.

The white tiger was also revealed to have written a bestselling book. Gronkowski’s memoir It’s Good to Be Gronk came out in 2015 and became a New York Times Best Seller.

An earlier clue consisted of an image of a cow skiing – two words which, put together, sound similar to the athlete’s surname.

Judge Nicole Scherzinger tweeted after the big reveal: ”Such a fun episode!!! Having you on the show @RobGronkowski was a blast. Thank you for bringing joy to us, the audience and everyone at home watching!”

Jenny McCarthy wrote: “YES! Got it right two weeks in a row! The Mr and I love you!”
