From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

ITV’s wackiest reality TV series returned on Saturday (16 January), with Grandfather Clock, Harlequin, Bush Baby, Viking and Blob performing for a second time.
Bush Baby returned to sing “A Little Less Conversation”, impressing the judges with his Elvis Presley-like voice.
When speaking, Bush Baby has an Australian actor but admitted that he was “good at accents”, leading the judges to speculate that it was fake.
However, Twitter users were convinced that they knew who was behind the costume, suggesting actor Brian Conley, who is known for his performances in musical theatre.
“Anyone else think Bush Baby is Brian Conley?” one viewer tweeted.
“My guess is Brian Conley,” another commented. “He’s done magic, he was famously kicked out of I'm a Celebrity in Australia, he’s done a variety show and the voice sounds like him.”
“Bush Baby is Brian Conley, I am sure of it,” another tweet read.
Conley is the bookies’ favourite to be unmasked as Bush Baby, with Ladbrokes having him at odds of 11/8. He is followed by John Thompson (3/1), Joe Swash (4/1), Matt Smith (5/1) and Matt Lucas (6/1).
You can find the full list of odds here.
The Masked Singer returns next Saturday at 7pm on ITV.
