From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Leftovers season three will be available to watch in the UK on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV from 4 July

HBO's acclaimed series The Leftovers is now over halfway through its final run, and one of its stars has given a one-word clue hinting at what to expect from the very next episode.

We got the chance to sit down with Christopher Eccleston, who plays Reverend Matt Jamison, in Paris last month where he cryptically teased what fans can expect from the upcoming episode - titled 'It's a Matt Matt Matt Matt World' - which he'll feature heavily in.

Upon being asked if his character will get a standalone episode like the ones he received in the series' first two seasons, Eccleston responded: “Yes, Matt does get an episode. And I'll say one word to you about my episode: Lion.”

Eccleston went on to reflect upon the standalone nature of the series which occasionally sees creators Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta reduce the show's central leads - Kevin Garvey and Nora Durst (played by Justin Theroux and Carrie Coon) to walk-on cameos.

“I was fortunate because I got a standalone episode in each series but then I would disappear completely from episodes. But I was under contract so I couldn't take other work.”

The British actor quipped: “You know, my ego's huge and in Britain I'm used to leading series so it was an interesting thing for me.

“It was a gamble but a gamble I was getting paid for.”

The Leftovers season three continues in the US on HBO every Sunday. It will be available to watch in the UK on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV on 4 July.
