Deadline reports that Stephen Graham - who played gangster Al Capone - has been tapped to play Genovese mob boss Tony “Pro” Provenzano opposite Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Al Pacino in the latter's first ever Scorsese collaboration.
Provenzano was a top associate of Jimmy Hoffa, the character whose disappearance provides the film with its story. He was believed to have played a part in the mystery with Hoffa's ‘peace conference’ with Provenzano the last time he was ever heard from.
The other new addition to the mob drama is Jack Huston who also starred in Boardwalk Empire - the pilot episode of which Scorsese directed - as war veteran Richard Harrow.
The Irishman - also referred to as I Heard You Paint Houses (mob slang for contract killings - the 'paint' being blood) - is based on the book by Charles Brandt which follows the “biggest mob hit in history.“ De Niro's role will be that of notorious mobster Frank 'The Irishman' Sheeran.
Harvey Keitel and Ray Romano will also star.
Scorsese is also currently working on an adaptation of The Devil in the White City with Leonardo DiCaprio.
