Ladbrokes revealed that one contestants odds had suspiciously plummeted from 12/1 to evens in a very brief amount of time, leading to betting to be suspended. Many customers had reportedly been placing the maximum sum of money on the amateur baker in question.
A Ladbrokes spokesperson explained: "When you see a run of bets like this for one contestant at the expense of everyone else, that can be a sign to suspend betting for a bit to assess the situation, and that's exactly what we did.”
Apparently most of the bets were done placed in shops around Ipswich, although the Telegraph reports the contestant has no links to the town. Bets already made will not be effected.
One contestant who definitely won’t be winning is ‘hipster’ Stu, who was the first to go home after making a beetroot infused Black Forest gateau. Tweeters were quick to react to his departure, one saying: “Stu’s glad he’s out, before the series went mainstream.”
