From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Gillian Anderson looks almost unrecognisable in character as Margaret Thatcher in The Crown.

The X Files star was photographed in the role of Britain’s first female prime minister, sporting a bright blue suit and big Eighties hair.

While The Crown series three has not yet been released, filming is already underway for series four, which will see Anderson join the cast of the hit Netflix show.

Conservative politician Thatcher ran the country between 1979 and 1990 and was nicknamed “The Iron Lady” for her uncompromising politics and leadership style.

“I am so excited to be joining the cast and crew of The Crown and to have the opportunity to portray such a complicated and controversial woman,” Anderson said in a statement when her casting was announced.

She added: “Thatcher was undoubtedly formidable but I am relishing exploring beneath the surface and, dare I say, falling in love with the icon who, whether loved or despised, defined an era.”

Also joining the cast in season four will be Emma Corrin as Princess Diana.

The Crown season three, which begins on Netflix on 17 November, will introduce Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II.
