Jenny Ryan, the quizmaster known on the series as “The Vixen”, was called a “condescending cow” by a Twitter user, whose account has since been removed from the site.
Replying to the tweet, Ryan wrote: “Always good to have a heads-up when someone’s asking the company I work for to fire me.
“PS If you think I’m condescending on the show, then you don’t know the half of it.”
On The Chase, contestants must face off against expert “Chasers” including Mark “The Beast” Labbett and Anne “The Governess” Hegerty, all of whom enjoy a combative relationship with the show’s guests.
“I’m literally doing my job, in exactly the same way as my Chaser colleagues do and always have done,” said Ryan. “This seems to be a perception issue, a separate issue with me.”
One person responded to her tweets pointing out that some viewers didn’t realise that the Chasers are just “characters”.
“We literally deliver a line of dialogue after we walk out each time. I basically should be up for an acting BAFTA,” joked Ryan.
“I'm mostly put out by the claim that NONE of the other Chasers are ever a bit snarky to the contestants. I think my colleagues would be offended, too.”
The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
