From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett has responded to accusations of favouritism, after viewers spotted that the countdown clock appeared to stall during one of his answers.
Writing on Twitter, the 50-year-old claimed that the cause of the timing glitch was due to poor editing.
"A pick-up or rerecord of a question was poorly edited, that is all...", he wrote.
After the show aired, viewers took to social media to complain about the clock appearing to hover over 10 seconds.
‘The Beast’s words were later supported by a spokesperson for the programme, who said that the error did not occur in the studio.
"There was an error on the clock on last night's episode of the Chase.”
“This error happened during the editing process and not in the studio when the show was being recorded so could not have affected the outcome in any way."
The contestants went on to win the £27,000 jackpot, as well as earning a compliment from the Chaser.
"20 is a fantastic score and you deserved to win.”
