From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The CW has released the first image of Superman in its Supergirl series, Teen Wolf’s Tyler Hoechlin becoming the latest actor to don the red cape.

His costume is pretty similar to that of Supermen past, though his face is so airbrushed as to give the impression of a Superman figurine rather than a Superman.

Hoechlin recently said that he feels a “responsibility” with regards to the iconic role.

"It's definitely incredibly surreal," he told fans at San Diego Comic-Con about playing the DC Comics character. "I know the character represents so much to so many people. This is not a generational thing. This is something literally spread across so much time.

“There is a lot of responsibility with this character. I'm really excited. I have not tried on the suit yet. That will be a moment for sure."

Superman will debut in the early episodes of Supergirl’s season 2, visiting his cousin Kara (Melissa Benoist) in National City.
