From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Kimberley Walsh is undergoing physio to get her in shape for this weekend's Strictly Come Dancing after damaging her knee.

She is thought to be suffering from an injury common to runners - iliotibial band syndrome - and has been having eye-watering treatment for the past few days.

The Girls Aloud star said she had her "fingers crossed" she would be up to full fitness to perform a salsa on this weekend's show with professional partner Pasha Kovalev.

It is the latest injury to beset this series following Aliona Vilani's damaged ankle - which put her out of the show - and James Jordan's broken nose.

Walsh revealed her problems as she attended the Cosmopolitan Ultimate Women Of The Year event last night.

She said: "I've got a little bit of a bad knee which causing me a bit of trouble, but I'm getting physio every day and I'm crossing everything that I'll be able to salsa this weekend, so fingers crossed."

But Walsh added that, other than her injury, "training's going well".

A show source said: "Kimberley's been suffering with a knee injury and has been training with it strapped up. Pasha's been an absolute saint in helping her continue dancing and she has seen a physiotherapist this week, who has been working wonders.

"She is dancing a salsa this week - so, fast with lots of twists and turns which aren't helping her knee.

"She is determined to train through the pain because she loves her dance this week, and hopes her knee will hold out."

On last Saturday's show she pulled off her best dance of the series, landing 31 points from the judges which put her in joint second place behind Louis Smith.

Walsh also told of her excitement about the Girls Aloud reunion, which will see them tour next year.

"It's going to be a big one so we've got a lot of really exciting ideas; we've just got to see whether or not it's actually physically possible to make them happen," she said.

Meanwhile, ex-Westlife star Kian Egan - who also attended the Cosmopolitan bash - said he had been following the progress of his old bandmate Nicky Byrne, who is also on Strictly this year.

He said: "He's doing very, very well. He started off a bit rough, I think, but as the weeks went on he seems to be getting a feel for it now and he's fallen into the character so it's good."
