From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Saturday night sees Strictly Come Dancing reach its grand, glitzy finale, with celebrities Georgia May Foote, Jay McGuiness, Kellie Bright and Katie Derham doing ballroom battle in a bid to lift the Glitterball Trophy.

But the big question is, who will win? Corrie’s Georgia has been consistently top notch with her American Smooth a memorable hit with the judges while bookies’ favourite Jay from boyband The Wanted has natural chemistry with dance partner Aliona Vilani.

EastEnders’ Kellie will be dancing the Charleston to Star Wars in a clever timely move and TV presenter Katie could give Anton du Beke his first Strictly victory in 11 years despite going in as the outsider.

Millions of viewers will be tuning in for the sequinned extravaganza. One of them being my Strictly superfan mum, who has given us her top tips and highlighted her most memorable moments of the series:

“It was a real pity that Anita Rani and Gleb Savchenko were knocked out last week for various reasons (he’s pretty hot!). Gleb’s over the top, manic cutting-edge choreography didn’t really help her cause - if a gymnastic medal had been up for grabs it would have been hers but sadly no Glitterball. Hats off for sheer courage though and their show dance would have been awesome!

Jay's description of Katie as 'like a swan but kind of hot' surely has to merit a vote

“The best dance has easily been Jay’s Jive - nothing can compete. He’s sure to repeat it in the final [actually Mum, he’s not, he ‘doesn’t want to ruin the memory’] but will he be in the zone and not screw up? It was so amazing the first time round, so fingers crossed. If he doesn’t lose concentration he’s my pick for 2015 winner, not only for his dancing but because he’s developed the most. His description of Katie as ‘like a swan…but kind of hot’ surely has to merit a vote.

“Everyone is rooting for Anton for obvious reasons, it’s his only year in the final. Who couldn’t love ballroom with him as the pro, but watching him and Katie do the Charleston was totally cringe; an ageing uncle ‘giving it his all’ with Katie trying to be ‘goofy’ was frankly uncomfortable. If they stick to ballroom and opt for an American Smooth or maybe their Argentine Tango, their pure class and style might just take them through on viewers’ support for Anton alone.

“The most memorable moment this series was Jeremy Vine’s floor spin. I can’t remember what dance it was, but it was hilarious.

“Roll on Saturday. Da da da da da da da, da da da da da!”

Catch the Strictly final from 6.35pm on BBC One on Saturday 19 December.
